NARI Brasil Holding Ltda Won the Bidding for VSC-HVDC Research and Development Project In Brazil

2021/10/29  by Event

On October 28, 2021, NARI Brasil Holding Ltda (Hereinafter referred to as NARI Brasil) won the bidding for the VSC-HVDC R&D project, which named as VSC Converters for HVDC Transmission Using Overhead Lines, from State Grid Brazil Holding S.A (hereinafter referred to as SGBH).

The project is jointly undertaken by NARI Brasil, POWERCONSULT ENGENHARIA DE SISTEMAS ELÉTRICOS LTDA, and FLUMINENSE Federal University of Brazil. It aims to develop the preliminary feasibility study of adopting VSC-HVDC flexible DC transmission technology in Brazil through in-depth research on the load and network characteristics of Brazil's power grid. The research will provide effective support for SGBH to further expand its business in related fields in Brazil.

The work scope of NARI Brasil mainly includes conducting a brief technical study of VSC-HVDC, conducting research, simulation and performance analysis of the power system that meets the requirements of the Brazilian Electricity and Energy Agency (Agência Nacional de Energia Elétrica-ANEEL) and submitting relevant reports, and drafting a feasibility study plan for the use of VSC-HVDC in Brazil.

Nowadays, the flexible DC transmission technology have not been applied to the Brazilian power grid yet. In recent years, clean energy power generation such as solar power and wind power in the northeastern region of Brazil has developed rapidly. But the power load demand of the country is mainly located in Rio, Sao Paulo and other southeastern regions of Brazil, with a distance of more than 2500km, and showing multi-point access and hierarchical load. The traditional point-to-point DC transmission method is difficult to meet the requirements of the power load demand. The Brazilian power grid has strong demand for new power transmission technologies with the features of long-distance, large-load, low-loss, and multi-point access. The third UHV DC transmission line has been planned for construction from Brazilian power grid so as to transmit the new energy power from the northeast to the load center.

NARI Brasil will take this project as an opportunity to give full play to NARI Group's comprehensive scientific research and technological advantages to fully support the overseas operations of SGBH. On the other hand, NARI Brasil will make full use of various opportunities to actively promote NARI Group's various superior product technologies and complete solutions, actively participate in related scientific research projects and the formulation of relevant industry standards, continually promote the transformation of technological advantages into industrial advantages, and continue to enhance the reputation and influence of the NARI brand in the Brazilian market, and make new positive contributions to the international development of NARI Group.
