The 46th International Convention on Quality Control Circles was held in Hyderabad, India from November 24 to 26. In light of the tough global situation against the COVID-19 pandemic at present, the Chinese delegation participated in the contest by means of “cloud conference” from Tianjin. The QC Team of “Electrical Appliance Explorer” representing NARIemerged from 904 QC teams worldwide through such stages as qualification, review of materials, release of achievements, and professional Q&A to win the “Par Excellence” top award. It is the first time for the company to win this international award reputed as the “Olympics for quality control.”
The award-winning project of NARI’s “Electrical Appliance Explorer” QC Team is titled “Research and Development of Wide-Area Synchronous Fault Locating Device in Distribution Network.” It proposes a groundbreaking basis for the initiation of identification of single line-to-ground faults based on zero-sequence voltage, which effectively improves the problems of false tripping and failure to trip with traditional fault indicator triggering components due to sudden changes in the electric field at the point of installation. The project adopts such emerging technologies as wide-area synchronous communication and localized analysis and judgment in its achievement to turn “passive reporting for repair” into “active monitoring.” By increasing fault location accuracy from 68% to 95%, the achievement is of great significance to improving the efficiency of repairing distribution network failures, shortening power outage time, and reducing casualties of electric shock accidents, providing strong support for ensuring the safety of the distribution network. Currently, the achievement has received three invention patents and published two professional papers. It has generated favorable economic benefits after being put into operation on the power grids of provincial power supply companies in Hubei, Jiangxi, Jiangsu, and more.
The International Convention on Quality Control Circles (“ICQCC” for short) was jointly initiated by 13 national and regional associations for standardization, including China Association for Quality, SPRING Singapore, Union of Japanese Scientists and Engineers, and Korean Standards Association, in the mid-1970s. As a grand international exchange and competition event for quality control circle activities, ICQCC is reputed as the “Olympics for quality control” for its large scale, extensive coverage, and strong appeal in the field of quality control.
