HVDC Circuit Breaker Power Modules Succeed to Interrupt 11kA Current

Dec 10, 2014 Font : T T T Print

Beijing, China, December 10, 2014 – Supported by a science and technology program of SGCC, C-EPRI successfully carried out current interruption test on high-voltage direct current (HVDC) circuit breaker power modules on September 23.

Compared to the previous test parameters 7.8 kA and 10 μs, the maximum interrupting current is increased to 11 kA and the time duration to 3ms, which created a new world record. The successful test of the power modules laid a solid foundation for the development of a complete HVDC circuit breaker prototype.

The power modules are core components of HVDC circuit breaker and can ultimately determine its current interruption capacity. After the test, C-EPRI will commence prototype assembly and commissioning of the 200kV HVDC circuit breaker.
