C-EPRI’s “Research and Development of UHV Equal-potential Shielding Capacitive Voltage Transformer” Program Passes CSEE’s Technological Achievements Appraisal

Beijing, China, December 10, 2014 – Chinese Society for Electrical Engineering (CSEE) organized a technological appraisal meeting for the program of “Research and Development of UHV Equal-potential Shielding Capacitive Voltage Transformer (CVT)” which are accomplished by C-EPRI and Anhui Electric Power Research Institute, on December 2, 2014. Led by academicians of Chinese Academy of Engineering Zhonghua Zhang and Qingquan Lei, 11 appraisal committee members all agreed that: “Based on the program, C-EPRI has developed for the first time a prototype of UHV Equal–potential Shielding CVT in the world with independent intellectual property. The prototype shows excellent performance and has reached an international advanced level on equal-potential shielding technique, insulation cooperation technique within compact space and error influence testing technique. We suggest put the prototype into trial operation as soon as possible.”

With the rapid development and large-scale applications of UHV transmission technology, proximity effects have greatly limited the accuracy of measurement of conventional capacitor voltage transformer and thus hindered precise power measurement and the speed of relay protection. To improve the safety and stability of power grid operation, Academician Jianchao Zheng led a team to develop a novel UHV CVT.

Next, C-EPRI will work towards the trial operation and project application of the UHV Equal-potential Shielding CVT.
