Beijing,
China, June 1, 2015- The high-power VSC-HVDC dynamic
simulation platform developed by SGRI successfully passed the achievement
appraisal organized by China Electricity Council (CEC) on May 20th.
The technical
committee all agreed that, “The platform possesses complete intellectual
property right, and the comprehensive technical performance has reached
international advanced level.”
This novel dynamic
simulation platform provides an effective means for the verification of both
Valve Base Controller (VBC) and Station Control of a VSC-HVDC system. Prior to
its launch, great difficulty was encountered in the test of system performance
and reliability due to the complicacy of converter control and for lack of
equivalent simulation technology.
SGRI’s
initiated the research as early as 2008 with the support of SGCC’s science
& technology programs and other national science and technology plans. A
series of breakthrough have been made in areas like theoretical equivalent
analysis, method study, and technical materialization, etc. SGRI therefore
successfully constructed a 401-level MMC-HVDC dynamic simulation platform which
includes 6000 submodules. The platform is capable of dynamic simulation for the
full-function test of VBC system in 1000MW-level VSC-HVDC projects.
So far, this
platform has been utilized for Shanghai Nanhui and Xiamen VSC-HVDC project for
system study as well as R&D and test of valve control and station control
equipment. The state-of-the-art development has opened new doors for power
system dynamic simulation and taken China to a new level in the field of HVDC
simulation.
Next, SGRI will work towards the construction of a more
ambitious DC grid simulation system and support the development of SGCC’s
Strong Smart Grid.
