Aug 26, 2019 Font : T T T Print

At 17:00 Beijing time, 6:00 Brazil time on August 22nd, the converter valve of the Belo Monte II ±800kV UHVDC transmission project supplied by C-EPRI passed the bipolar high-load test. The event marks the China’s first ± 800kV UHVDC transmission technology equipment developed independently has the operational capability in international market.

The system commissioning of Belo Monte II UHVDC transmission project was officially launched on June 7, 2019. As of 6 AM Brazil time on August 22nd, the system was successful on all 186 test items at first try. The high-load test is the fully effective and final validation of the quality of C-EPRI’s converter valve products, as well as full-power transmission capability of the ±800kV UHVDC project of Belo Monte II.

The Belo Monte II project in Brazil is currently the longest ±800kV UHVDC transmission project in the world, with a total length of 2,518 kilometers, covering 5 states and 78 cities of Brazil’s Para, Tocantins, Goias, Minas Gerais and Rio de Janeiro. It is the first project of the ±800kV UHVDC transmission technology equipment successfully applied in the overseas market which is independently developed by China. It is also an important practice for the State Grid Corporation of China to promote the “Belt and Road Initiative” and the internationalization strategy, which will effectively enhance the mutual benefits and win-win cooperation between China and Brazil. After the project is completed, the clean hydropower resources in northern Brazil will be directly transmitted to the load center in the southeast, forming a good synergy with the Belo Monte I project to better serve the social and economic development of Brazil.
