C-EPRI wins contract for BolWin6 offshore wind connection project

Feb 18, 2022 Font : T T T Print

On 14th February 2022, the German TSO TenneT issued the final award notice, announcing that the land and sea station of grid connection project BorWin6 is awarded to the McDermott and GEIRI / C-EPRI Consortium. By combining the strengths and expertise of each party, the Consortium will work in an integrated manner to provide Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Installation and Commissioning (EPCIC) services for this project.
BorWin6 is rated at ±320kV and has a maximum transmission capacity of 980 megawatts. The total route length is 235-kilometre, with the subsea cable reaching a record length of 190 kilometres. BorWin6 is a key project to realize Germany’s ambition of energy transition to renewables. In this project, GEIRI / C-EPRI's scope includes the engineering, manufacture, supply, installation supervision and commissioning of the HVDC system for the onshore and offshore converter stations. The project is scheduled for commissioning in 2027.
With complex conditions and the harsh marine environment, the North Sea poses itself as a very challenging application scenario when it comes to bringing wind power from sea to land, which calls for the most state-of-the-art technology to be deployed. GEIRI/C-EPRI will utilize the latest generation of HVDC Flexible Technology and develop a series of customized equipment that are specifically suitable for offshore applications, including a lighter version of ±320kV/1000MW converter valves and DC Chopper etc.
This winning of the BorWin6 project marks an important milestone for GEIRI/C-EPRI over the many years of cultivation of the European market. This will also strongly promote the further development of relevant technologies in China and facilitate the transformation and upgrading of China's semiconductor and high-end power equipment sectors. Next, GEIRI/C-EPRI will work closely together with its partners and the client, and ensure the project is delivered on time and with high quality.
