On June 23rd, 2022, C-EPRI successfully completed the installation of the Controllable Self-Recovery Energy Dissipation Device (hereinafter referred to as CSEDD) and the acceptance test for the Yucheng converter station of the Baihetan-Jiangsu ±800kV UHVDC transmission project (hereinafter referred to as the "Bai-Jiang Project"). The first application of this device in the Bai-Jiang Project marks another major innovation milestone for C-EPRI. The invention provides solid technical support for China's subsequent new-type UHVDC construction of new energy integration.
The CSEDD is installed in parallel with the receiving end of hybrid VSC HVDC valve assembly (inverter end) of the transmission system. During the fault ride-through process of the receiving end AC system, it can effectively suppress valve overvoltage, absorb redundant energy, and protect the VSC HVDC valve assembly. It has the advantages of no harmonics caused during operation, relatively simple control strategy, and high current impact resistance.
C-EPRI has completed the research and development on the fundamental theory, circuit topology, complete set of technologies, prototype device, test methods and technical standards and has mastered the core technology of CSEDD.
In late March 2022, C-EPRI started the on-site installation of CSEDD. For the next step, C-EPRI will work with Client on the on-site commissioning and testing work.
