C-EPRI’s CLCC converter valve
On June 18th, 2023, the CLCC converter valve of the Ge'nan refurbishment
project successfully completed 168-hour trial operation test and was officially
put into operation. This marks that C-EPRI has become the world's first company
to acquire Controllable Line-Commutated Converter (CLCC) technology, which has
tested by commercial operation.
C-EPRI and its technology partner has raised innovative concept
regarding parallel double-branch topology which enables the use of hybrid
technology of full-control and semi-control components. This new concept took
the best of both LCC and VSC technologies. It has advantages of high transmission
capacity, low loss, high reliability and strong system support capabilities. In
addition, refurbished CLCC converter valve is fully compatible with original
control and protection technology and interface. The operation of Ge’nan
project marks that the technology gap of CLCC technology has been filled and
the technical obstacle of commutation failure of LCC HVDC has been solved.
